Chokers, decoded: velvet, chain, lace & leather
15 October 2026 · 3 min read
Velvet chokers are the everyday goth uniform — soft, matte, forgiving. They sit at 30–35cm and work with almost everything, which is why our Nocturne Velvet Choker with the O-ring is the piece we tell beginners to buy first.
Chain chokers are sharper: curb, ball and barbed styles that read industrial. They want skin contact and simple necklines — turtlenecks swallow them, scoop necks show them off.
Lace chokers are the romantic branch — lolita, Victorian, soft-goth. They pair with high collars, ruffles and off-shoulder tops, and they do the talking, so keep the rest of the neck bare.
Measure your neck, then add 3–5cm. A choker should rest, not cling — if you can fit one finger under it comfortably, the length is right.
