Monsoon-proof your jewellery: the rainy-season routine

18 October 2026 · 3 min read

Indian monsoon doesn't tarnish steel — but four months of damp air, sudden soakings and sweat will film over anything. The fix is routine, not products.

Dry is the whole religion. Caught in the rain? Rinse with clean water when you're home (street rain carries grime), pat dry, and leave pieces out overnight before pouching them. Sealed damp jewellery is how odour and dullness start.

Add silica gel to your storage — one sachet per pouch, replaced each season. And rotate: monsoon is the time for your steel and titanium, not enamel or lace chokers, which hate sustained damp.

Perfume and sunscreen go on first, jewellery last, always. A necklace that sits in a layer of SPF all July will look tired by August no matter what metal it's made of.
