How to keep your steel black, bright & brutal

Stainless steel earned its place in alt jewellery for one reason: it doesn't quit. No green skin, no fading, no flaking. But “tarnish-free” isn't “maintenance-free” — body oil, perfume and monsoon humidity still leave a film that dulls the finish.

The ritual is simple. Once a week, wash your pieces in warm water with a drop of mild soap, scrub gently with a soft toothbrush around engravings and stone settings, rinse, and pat completely dry. Never store pieces damp — moisture trapped in a pouch is what kills shine.

Keep perfume and Attorney away from the jewellery itself: spray first, wear after. And store each relic separately. Steel won't scratch easily, but stones and enamel will thank you for their own pouch.
