Travelling with jewellery: the pouch, the pillbox & the rule
5 November 2026 · 3 min read
The straw trick still wins: thread delicate chains through a drinking straw and clasp them. No tangle has ever survived it. Rings and cuffs go in a weekly pillbox — one compartment per piece, zero scratching.
Never pack jewellery loose in a side pocket or a single pouch. Metal on metal in transit is how stones loosen and enamel chips. Separate, always.
Wear your heaviest pieces through security instead of traying them — steel won't set off walk-through detectors, and trays are where small studs go to die.
The rule: travel with steel and titanium, leave plated alloy and lace at home. Sweat, sunscreen, sea and hotel safes you don't trust — your workhorse metals shrug all of it off.
